IKEA New Store In Las Vegas

Well, it looks like many people’s wishes are being granted. IKEA, the international retail store, is opening a store in Las Vegas. No longer do you have to drive to Covina, CA, Tempe, AZ, or Draper, UT to get your IKEA fix.

IKEA is a Swedish company that is know for it’s cheap and chic furniture and home accessories. You’ll find that several of their items require the customer to assemble them.

The location of the store and it’s opening date are not known at this time, but IKEA representatives will be making and announcement today during a news conference.

As of now, there are only 38 IKEA stores in the United States.

**UPDATE** – IKEA announced that their new Las Vegas store will be near Durango Drive and Sunset Road and will open in the summer of 2016. The new store will create 1,000 construction jobs. Once the store is completed, it will employ 300 workers.

1. Why it’s called IKEA. – IKEA is actually an acronym for Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. The acronym is comprised of the founder’s initials (I. K., for Ingvar Kamprad), the name of the farm where he grew up (Elmtaryd), and the location of the farm in Smaland, South Sweden (in the parish of Agunnaryd).

10. Not every town WAS crazy about IKEA. – Not Las Vegas, anyway. The local government had refused to allow the super-store to build within the city limits because they felt that the giant corporation would push out the smaller, mom-and pop type stores struggling in the area. This is obviously changing with IKEA announcing it’s finally opening a store in Las Vegas.
