Sugar Factory & Opportunity Village Create a Sweet Team

Sugar Factory is known for their sweets and treats, but they also provide for the community in a way not many are aware of. The confectionery shop has been partnered with Opportunity Village, a local not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities for nearly three years and has provided the organization’s members with employment and the sweet feeling of fulfillment.

Sugar Factory employs more than 30 individuals with intellectual disabilities, who assist in assembling Couture Pops, one of the company’s most exciting and popular items. Since the partnership began in 2009, Opportunity Village has assembled more than 10,000 of the rhinestone-encrusted lollipops.

“Sugar Factory has been extremely influential in the success of our Employment Resource Center,” said Laura D’Amore, Director of Sales. “Our individuals love working on these incredible lollipops, because they get to earn a paycheck, helping them become independent and self-reliant,” said D’Amore.

Opportunity Village was started in 1954 by families wanting a better life for people with intellectual disabilities. Since then, Opportunity Village has grown to provide employment and rehabilitation services to just under 1,800 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Opportunity Village is a non-profit organization serving people within the community with intellectual disabilities, enhancing their lives and the lives of their families.

Sugar Factory isn’t your average sweet spot. The brand has made confections part of popular culture and has turned sweets into the latest designer accessory. Sugar Factory’s signature Couture Pop collections have already hit the red carpets in the hands of celebrities at major events in Miami, Los Angeles, New York City and Las Vegas.
