Las Vegas Taxi Pro Tip

We know you’ve probably seen plenty of movies showing a passenger waving their arm in order to get a taxi. Well, in Las Vegas, you can’t do that. Technically you can, but you won’t get a Las Vegas Taxi to stop for you, as the driver could get a ticket for blocking traffic. Your best bet is to go up to the front door of any major hotel on the Strip and have the doorman call a taxi up for you. The taxis are there lined up waiting to take you where you wish to go.

Straight from the Las Vegas Taxi Drivers

Contrary to what tech companies would like you to believe, the Las Vegas Taxi is the most ideal way to get from the airport to the Las Vegas Strip or Downtown, and back to the airport.

How can we say this with such confidence? Not only are people on our team former or current taxi drivers, but really all you have to do is just look around. Taxies are highly visible. Meaning you can find them virtually anywhere, especially if you’re coming out of the door at a hotel or the airport.

A statement drivers always hear is, “I bet you have some stories,” and yes we do. Some ask if it’s like what they have seen on TV. Well, yes and no. Yes, it’s like Taxicab Confessions and no, it’s not like Cash Cab. Sorry. You’re only going to win money by gambling in the casino.

Here are 4 reasons taking a Las Vegas Taxi is different than taking a rideshare.

  1. There’s natural anonymity, as the driver doesn’t know your real name and you can be who you want.
  2. If the taxi driver was awesome, you can get their phone number to use their service again, and do it legally.
  3. If you didn’t like your driver, no 1-star rating is required, as you probably will never see the driver again anyway.
  4. Do you want even more anonymity, by paying with cash? You can pay with cash or a credit card in a Las Vegas Taxi.

Something drivers tend to hear from passengers that haven’t been to Vegas for a while when leaving the airport is, “Don’t take the tunnel!” While that may have been “sage advice” that you received from some other website or your friend who’s been to Las Vegas thousands of times, there’s really no longer any reason to say that to a driver. Why? Because there are now flat rates, which started around December of 2019. You can find those rates below.

The flat rate includes the fare for the ride and any taxes that go with that ride. What the flat rate does not include is a tip for the driver or the credit card fee (generally $3) if you should use a credit card. Side note, none of the $3 credit card fees go to the driver. It goes to the company that provides the credit card machine.

Flat rates were introduced to help combat “long hauling” and to compete with ridesharing companies. The benefit of the flat rate to the passenger is that they have a consistent rate that they know they will pay (no surge pricing), without having to worry about being taken a long way around. The benefit to the driver is they can take the fastest route to the hotel or airport, regardless if it’s via the surface streets or the airport tunnel.
