In a previous post, I had discussed that soon there will be an IKEA Las Vegas. What I didn’t expect to find out was the vast size of the location.

Word on the street is that the new IKEA Las Vegas, arriving in the summer of 2016, will be MUCH larger than the what I was previously told. The company wants to expand the Las Vegas location almost another 67,000 square feet. The total square footage once it’s complete will be approximately 351,000. That’s massive!

IKEA Las Vegas, a two story building, will have almost 243,000 square feet on the first floor and just over 108,000 square feet on the second floor. Inside of all this square footage you’ll find a 450 seat restaurant at 16,350 square feet. That’s about the same size as the RTC South Strip Transfer Terminal.

As far as the food at the restaurant goes, IKEA has said you’ll find meatballs with lingonberries, as well as salmon plates. For those not wanting to eat at the store, there will be a 1,200 square foot store offering easy to prepare dishes, frozen meats, as well as candy, condiments, desserts, and sauces from the Nordic Region.

Not only will IKEA Las Vegas be almost 243,000 square feet when completed, but there are also plans to expand the location an additional almost 50,000 square feet to the first floor and just over 14,000 square feet to the second floor. This would put the Las Vegas location at about 415,000 square feet. Should this expansion take place, it would tie IKEA Las Vegas with the location in Sweetwater, Florida in size.

As of August 2014, IKEA owns and operates 350 stores in 43 countries. In fiscal year 2010, $23.1 billion (US) worth of goods were sold, a total that represented a 7.7 percent increase over 2009. The IKEA website contains about 12,000 products and is the closest representation of the entire IKEA range. There were over 470 million visitors to IKEA’s websites in the year from September 2007 to September 2008. The company uses approximately 1% of the Earth’s wood supply, making it one of the largest users of wood in the retail sector. – Wikipedia
