About Tropicana Las Vegas
The Tropicana Las Vegas is a casino hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Bally’s Corporation, on land leased from Gaming and Leisure Properties. It offers 1,467 rooms, a 50,000-square-foot (4,600 m2) gaming floor, and 72,000 sq ft (6,700 m2) of convention and exhibit space.
This location, the Tropicana – Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, has the most hotel rooms of any intersection in the world. Pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. Instead, the Tropicana is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos: to the north across Tropicana Avenue, the MGM Grand, and to the west across the Strip, the Excalibur.
The largest venue at the property is the 1,100-seat Tropicana Theater, which features the Purple Reign THE Prince Tribute Show (since 2017) and the Michael Jackson tribute show MJ Live (since 2022).
On May 9, 2023, it was announced that Major League Baseball (MLB)’s Oakland Athletics had reached an agreement to build a 30,000-seat partially retractable roof stadium on the Tropicana site with plans to demolish it along with a new 1,500-room hotel and casino. The project is expected to cost $1.5 billion. The team and Bally’s officially announced the project on May 15, 2023.
In May 2023, the MLB’s Oakland Athletics, who announced an agreement with Bally’s Corporation and GLPI for the development of the site, released renderings of a proposed new baseball stadium to be constructed on the site of the Tropicana, which would have a retractable roof facing the Strip and adjacent to the Harry Reid International Airport designed by Schrock KC Architecture.
The proposed stadium will feature a retractable roof and seat 30,000. The proposal was then approved in the Nevada State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Joe Lombardo in June 2023.
After the stadium proposal was approved by the Nevada Legislature, Bally’s began work on demolishing the Tropicana to make way for the new ballpark.
Bally’s chairman Soo Kim in an interview with local news said the Tropicana may not be razed until two years later into construction and that there could be a scenario where a part of the resort-casino could remain after the ballpark is complete.
He also noted that the ballpark would include a new casino resort and a separate, adjacent sports-themed attraction. – Source: Wikipedia
