After Joywave opened the stage with an energetic set, highlighted by hit single “Tongues” featuring KOPPS, Derek Stevens, owner CEO of the D Las Vegas and new DLV, took the mic to welcome the cheering crowd to his new events center and introduce headlining band Capital Cities. Making a stop at DLV as part of their Fall 2014 World Tour, the six-member ensemble has made a name for itself with catchy, synthpop hit singles and a signature interactive live performance style that ignites audiences in dance. DLV roared with applause as frontmen Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, along with band members Manny Quintero, Spencer Ludwig, Nick Merwin and Channing Holmes, took the stage and opened their set with hit “Kangaroo Court.”

Engaging fans from the show’s start to its finish, Capital Cities had the audience singing along to songs including “I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo” and smash hit “Safe and Sound,” and even taught the crowd their signature dance, The Capital Cities Shuffle. The band surprised the audience throughout, peppering covers of famous singles such as Weezer’s “Sweater Weather,” Bee Gee’s “Stayin’ Alive” and Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares To You” into their set list of original tracks. Later in the night, Merchant and Simonian asked the crowd to wish bassist Manuel Quintero a Happy Birthday, inviting them to join in song as they serenaded their band mate.
