*Update – January 30, 2016: So, it’s possible the NFL will have no qualms with the Raiders moving to Las Vegas. As there website states, “There is no prohibition under league rules on a team moving to any particular city. Any proposal for relocation would be evaluated based on the same standards as apply to any proposed move. Those standards are well-known, having just been applied in connection with relocation proposals to Los Angeles.” – NFL releases memo regarding Raiders’ interest in Las Vegas

A leaked memo from Len Jessup, UNLV president, read that Oakland Raiders representatives will be checking out potential stadium sites in Las Vegas on Friday.

I personally think this is great news for the city of Las Vegas. Do I care if it’s the Oakland Raiders? Not in the slightest. They aren’t MY favorite team, but an NFL franchise in Las Vegas will again show that we are vibrant and well diversified city. I mean, we do have over 2 million people that live here and over 42 million visitors per year. So, it’s really about time.

Now, will the NFL allow the Oakland Raiders to move to Las Vegas? I’m not sure. The NFL has long been steadfast against such a move. I mean, they won’t even allow Las Vegas establishments to use the word Super Bowl in any of it’s advertising. But, maybe they’re watching Las Vegas make financial commitments to bring other major league sports here and will allow an Oakland Raiders move. Only time will tell.
