Nathan Myhrvold New Collection at Modernist Cuisine Gallery
Beer is one of the most popular drinks in the world and enjoyed year-round. Nathan Myhrvold’s home state of Washington enjoys close ties to this malty beverage because of its famous Yakima Valley, which produces over 77% of the hops grown in the United States.
Nathan Myhrvold recently visited the region to photograph hops on one of the final days of the around-the-clock harvest. The result was an all-new, hops-inspired collection now on display and for sale at his three Modernist Cuisine Gallery locations in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Seattle – just in time for National Beer Day.
From the day-break scene of Morning After Harvest to the first-round knockout of Brew Club (oops, broke the first rule) these four distinct prints punctuate Myhrvold’s signature close-up photography techniques and proprietary process that includes custom cameras, robots, and an unrivaled scientific imagination.
Here’s to raising the bar this National Beer Day and finding the perfect medicine for what ale’s ya. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

About Nathan Myhrvold
Nathan Myhrvold is the lead author and photographer of Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking, Modernist Cuisine at Home, The Photography of Modernist Cuisine, Modernist Bread, and the forthcoming Modernist Pizza. He continued to pursue photography even while doing postdoctoral cosmology work with Stephen Hawking and working alongside Bill Gates as the chief technology officer of Microsoft. After retiring from Microsoft, Myhrvold founded Intellectual Ventures and focused more time on the pursuit of his lifelong interests. Inspired by the void in the literature about culinary science and the cutting-edge techniques used in the world’s best restaurants, he assembled the Modernist Cuisine team to share the beauty and science of cooking with others. The striking imagery of the team’s self-published books has captivated readers and garnered awards and recognition around the world.
