Hussongs Cantina at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place celebrates five years of authentic Baja cuisine, deceptively strong margaritas and raucous sing-a-longs with the rock n’ roll mariachis with specials throughout the month of January, new menu additions and a social media contest that will have even the gringos shouting “ole”.

In 2010 the Las Vegas location of Hussong’s became the first U.S. outpost of the oldest cantina in Mexico, where as lore has it, the margarita was invented.

Guests wishing to toast to Hussong’s turning five can enjoy drink specials including five dollar buckets of five Tecate or Tecate Light beers or Hussong’s Birthday Margarita featuring five shots of Sauza Blue Reposado with vanilla cake batter, strawberry syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles, served in a souvenir chalice and topped with a candle for $25.

New menu items from executive chef Noe Alcala will be introduced starting in January as well. Loaded Papas, an indulgent dish of shoestring fries topped with chicken, steak or carnitas, beans, cheese sauce, bacon bits, pico de gallo, jalapenos, sour cream and avocado-tomatillo sauce joins the appetizer offerings, and quesadillas will get a makeover with options including a BBQ pork or fajita versions. New specialty entrees include the Hussong’s Steak, a grilled rib eye featuring a three chile seasoning and topped with chimichurri butter, chile toreado and pickled onions served alongside green traditional chilaquiles and grilled corn, the Huarache de Pollo, pounded chicken breast atop a crispy tortilla over pasicalla salsa and smothered in borracho refried beans, gratin Mexican cheese, chimichurri, lettuce, guacamole and pickled onion and Watermelon BBQ Ribs, a full rack of slow cooked ribs served with whole borracho beans, homemade coconut slaw and fried sopapilla strips.
