Michael and David Morton will name their highly anticipated new restaurant MB Steak, the “MB” stands for “Morton Brothers.” Opening in May at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, MB Steak will honor the family’s longstanding steakhouse tradition.

Michael and David were children when their father, Arnie Morton, debuted Morton’s of Chicago in 1978. Since Arnie sold Morton’s of Chicago in the late 1980s, his offspring have been prolific in the restaurant industry, but MB Steak marks the first time that any of the siblings have partnered on a project.

“There’s no question of the imprint my father made on his children,” said Michael. “We grew up with such admiration for him for the superior quality of his restaurants and clubs; he was meticulous. David and I spend so much time trading stories about our own venues, it just makes sense to put family tradition and our own experience into a joint project.”

“Because I’m partnering with my brother, there’s a personal connection that transcends any of our other projects,” said David. “We can’t aim for anything less than to deliver the best; to redefine the steakhouse as our father did with Morton’s.”

David and Michael have more than two-dozen restaurants and bars to their credit. MB Steak will occupy approximately 7,000 square feet at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with all-new construction in the southwest corner of the property.

ABOUT MICHAEL MORTON

Chicago native Michael Morton got his start sweeping floors at Morton’s and Arnie’s before creating his own iconic dining and nightlife brands, including Drink!, N9NE Steakhouse, Ghostbar, Rain Nightclub, Nove Italiano and Moon Nightclub. Michael opened Drink and Eat, Too in Chicago in 1992. The psychedelic dance club featured inventive touches like a VIP bar in an elevator shaft and drinks served in baby bottles; he would later open Drink! Las Vegas, in 1995. Drink! Was followed by N9NE Steakhouse in Chicago in 2000, and then N9NE Steakhouse in Las Vegas, along with mega-club Rain, the tower-topping Ghostbar, and later Moon Nightclub, Nove Italiano and the Playboy Club, all located at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. N9NE Steakhouse is widely credited with creating the trend of club-like restaurants that dominate the Strip today.

Michael founded Morton Group in 2010 with his wife, Jenna Morton, opening La Cave Wine & Food Hideaway, at Wynn Las Vegas in 2010. The pair followed La Cave’s success with the debut of a funky, urban Mexican Restaurant, La Comida, which opened in Downtown Las Vegas’ burgeoning Fremont East Entertainment District in 2013. They opened CRUSH, a highly social restaurant and bar serving American cuisine, at MGM Grand, also in 2013.
