Floyd Mayweather defeats Marcos Maidana by unanimous decision after 12 rounds.

In their first meeting, Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana, it was billed as “The Moment” and a boxing welterweight championship superfight. The bout was held on May 3, 2014, in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, on Showtime PPV.

The fight was won by Floyd Mayweather in a highly contested 12-round fight via majority decision. Judge Michael Pernick scored the fight 114–114, a draw. Judge Dave Moretti had it 116–112, and Burt A. Clements scored it 117–111.

Floyd Mayweather is the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board junior middleweight champion, WBC welterweight champion, WBA (Super) super welterweight champion, WBC Super welterweight champion, recipient of the WBC diamond super welterweight belt, current Ring #1 ranked welterweight, and Ring #1 ranked junior middleweight.[8] He is also rated as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world by many sporting news and boxing websites, including Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, BoxRec, Fox Sports, and Yahoo! Sports. Mayweather topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012, 2013 and recently the Forbes 2014 list, currently making Mayweather the highest paid athlete in the world.
