Just in time for the summer, the refurbishment of Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland Park is finally complete. There is a reimagined scene, one scene removed, “new” audio has been added to the ride, as well as one new scene. So, let’s get started.

There is a new scene, that if you’ve visited Disneyland Paris or Walt Disney World, you may already be familiar with, which is instead of the old auction scene, where the items being auctioned were people, the new auction scene is of the townspeople selling their goods and prized possessions. The redhead we’ve all grown up with, known as Redd, also has a new role in the scene. She’s no longer being auctioned, or the one doing the auctioning (depends on who you ask) but is now there to pillage the town for their rum, not their people.

Here are two photos of the auction scene of what it looked like before and what it looks like now.

You might be wondering, well, what scene was removed? Remember the mist screen projection of Davy Jones? That scene, which had been added to the ride over 10 years ago, is now entirely gone. Don’t worry though. You can still hear Blackbeard and Davy Jones during the final lift hill. Instead of that effect, you get the “new” audio, which is an original audio track featuring the voice of Paul Frees.

There are a couple of other things that the Imagineers team developed for the ride. Kim Irvine, an art director for Walt Disney Imagineering, shares with us what those are in the video below.

As you can see from the video, a long-standing fan theory has been finally realized. That the storyline of Pirates of the Caribbean is, in fact, going backward in time. From the pirates’ deaths to them reminiscing about what their lives were like at one time. The exact time that transition takes place is in the photo below.

Although I can honestly say that I wasn’t thrilled when I had heard the ride was changing, I am happy that the Imagineering team was mindful when taking into account the thoughts of people that wanted the ride to stay the same and moving forward as a society. Kudos to you Disney!

About Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland Park

Pirates of the Caribbean is considered by many to be one of the most spectacular attractions ever created for a theme park. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, the adventures continue in Southern California!

The attraction was originally conceived as a wax museum and a walk-through exhibit. But following the success of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Walt Disney and his team of Imagineers decided that Audio-Animatronics—Walt’s latest animation technology—was the most imaginative way to tell a rousing pirate story.

On March 18, 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean opened at Disneyland Park. Thanks to the many highly detailed scenes, lavish special effects and memorable characters, the attraction earned rave reviews and has remained a beloved classic, even spawning its own blockbuster film series! – Disneyland.com
