Las Vegas has been waiting patiently since the announcement last year that Zippys Restaurants was going to open a location on the “Ninth Island.”

Now, the new location is one step closer to reality with the purchase of vacant land in southwest Las Vegas. The site is located at the southeast corner of Badura Avenue and Montessouri Street.

The site is currently undeveloped and is expected to build a 7,000-square-foot restaurant, take-out, and retail bakery, in addition to a 12,000-square-foot central kitchen/bakery to support future growth in Las Vegas.

“The location in southwest Las Vegas is ideal for Zippys Restaurants,” says CEO Jason Higa. “This area is burgeoning with residential housing. In addition, the location near the 215 Beltway will provide an efficient transportation hub for our central production facility to support the additional Zippys stores to open in other parts of Las Vegas.”

The land was purchased from Laurich Properties, founded by chairman Hank Gordon, and currently led by president Richard Gordon. Richard Gordon states, “Laurich Properties is excited to welcome such an iconic Hawaii brand to Las Vegas and we wish them great success.”

The new location will require extensive site improvements and the construction of a central kitchen and bakery, which adds considerable complexity beyond a standard restaurant build.

Therefore, the opening of the restaurant is now expected, on October 10, 2023.

The biggest question they’ve heard from their fans is “Will you be serving my favorite item when Zippys opens in Las Vegas?” The quick answer is YES! Get ready for Zip Pacs®, Famous Original Recipe Chili, Korean Fried Chicken, and Golden Fried Chicken, in addition to more than a hundred more menu items.

And, YES! They are also opening a bakery as well so you can get your favorite Chantilly and Dobash cakes, as well as Napples®, even malasadas, andagi, and jin DUI.

Las Vegas fans of Zippys’ Hawaii-centric style of cooking will be able to satisfy their cravings sooner when the restaurant plans to participate in the Pure Aloha Festival, a Hawaii-centric festival on Easter weekend in Las Vegas.

“We wanted to thank our fans in Las Vegas for their patience and support by serving our signature Zippys chili, if only for a limited time,” says Paul Yokota, president of Zippys.

With the assistance of Hawaiian Air Cargo, Zippys is airlifting over 2,000 pounds of its famous original recipe chili to be served at the event – but only while supplies last. Be sure to check out the booth near the main stage at the Pure Aloha Festival.

About Zippys

Zippys is a fast-casual restaurant chain based in Hawaii. On October 17, 1966, brothers Francis and Charles Higa created the very first Zippys on South King Street. At first, the Higa brothers were going to open a car wash, but they ended up creating a restaurant.

The kitchen was located in the back of Zippy’s McCully fast food operation. At the time, the zip code was gaining popularity because it was a faster and more efficient way for mail to arrive. The Higa brothers liked the idea of zip codes and they wanted their restaurant to have the same kind of service, resulting in the name Zippy’s. Francis and Charlie bought mostly freestanding buildings so that they could stay open for 24 hours. Because it was open all day, the restaurant attracted many late-night goers.

On November 19, 1983, Napoleon’s Bakery opened its doors for the first time because Zippy’s wanted to try something different. They wanted to create that one-stop shop so that when the customer was done with their dinner, they could order some kind of dessert. Zippy’s had an increase in sales because of the opening of Napoleon’s Bakery. Today, Zippy’s has 24 different locations throughout Hawaii and has become one of Hawaii’s most popular fast food chains.
