Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Agreement Made to Stay in Las Vegas
Despite Dallas and Osceola County, Florida trying to take the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo away from Vegas, they have failed. The Las Vegas Events (LVE) Board of Trustees and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Board of Directors had unanimous votes agreeing that the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) will stay in Las Vegas through 2024.
Following the 2014 Wrangler NFR is when the new agreement will start. In the agreement, an annual purse and sponsorship for the Wrangler NFR of $16.5 million will be guaranteed by LVE.
During the 2015-2019 seasons, stock contractors receive $3 million a year and the contestant purse will be $10 million. Not offset by contestant winnings, contestants will get $10,000 guaranteed each year. During the 2020-2024 seasons, a cost of living increase to each the guarantee and purse will occur.
The economic impact of the NFR into Las Vegas each year is huge. It has sold out 270 consecutive events and is known as the most prestigious and richest rodeo in the world. NFR attracts the top 15 contestants in bull riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, bareback riding, team roping, and tie-down roping.
In 2013 alone, the non-gaming economic impact to Las Vegas thanks to NFR was $87.9 million. NFR draws almost 177,000 visitors to town over the 10 days of the event.
