First and foremost, I want to send a huge thank you to Hillary Smoot of Red Moon PR. She’s always been a great friend and partner with Travelivery and sends great stories that we then get to share with all of you.

Besides how the food is at a restaurant, another way to determine if you’ll be back is how the staff at that restaurant makes you feel. If you feel better when you leave than when you came in, you’ll go back again and again. That staff is top-notch. Our server was awesome. His name is Josh and I highly recommend requesting him when you visit. Ian, the manager, was also on point, wanting to make sure everything was to our liking. Even the host was very cheerful, helpful with the new way to see the menu, and even took our photo when we were leaving. Everything was spot on.

Now on to the food. Everything we had was fantastic. There were things that stood out, which I’ll highlight below. Make sure to check out all the photos in the gallery as well.

What We Ate

  • We started off with the Tableside Guacamole. It was made with fresh Hass avocados, mixed with serrano chiles, garlic, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and fresh lime juice. It is literally the best guacamole I have ever had. Every bite was fresh and zesty. I highly recommend the Tableside Guacamole.
  • The dish that I got was the Pork Carnitas. Man, these are right up there with my favorite pork carnitas dish ever. It’s slow-cooked pork, with pickled vegetables, pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, refried beans, cilantro rice (which is amazing), and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. I highly recommend the Pork Carnitas.
  • The dish my grandma got was the Seafood Bowl. It comes with your choice of wild shrimp, salmon, or mahi, with fajita veggies, roasted corn, and marinated heirloom tomatoes. It’s served over brown rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, queso fresco, avocado, and your choice of roasted tomatillo dressing or salsa cascabel. I didn’t have any of this dish, but my grandma did say it was the best salmon she’s ever had. So, if you’re a fan of salmon, this dish appears to be a winner.
  • My mom and stepdad got similar dishes, the Fajita Platter. With my mom getting the Chicken, Steak, and Shrimp Combo and my stepdad got the Shrimp and Steak Combo. They come to your table as expected, hot and sizzling, so the whole restaurant knows what you ordered. They are served over a bed of fresh-cut grilled peppers and onions on a sizzling skillet, with fresh guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. They are also served with cilantro rice and refried beans.
  • And, as if that wasn’t enough, we shared a couple of desserts, Tres Leches Cake, made with vanilla cakes soaked in rum and sweet cream, served with fresh fruit and whipped cream, as well as El Dorado’s Famous Flan, a traditional Mexican vanilla custard with caramel sauce. Both desserts hit the spot.

All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience at El Dorado Cantina. It was a great way to finish out my birthday week. Make sure to spend your birthday with them as well.
